How to Create a Zip File

Do you need to create a password protected/encrypted file? Then see our instructions on how to create an encrypted file. If not, proceed with the instructions below.

Windows XP and Windows 7

1) Locate the file or folder that you want to compress.

2) Right-click the file or folder, point to Send to, and then click Compressed (zipped) folder.

A new compressed folder is created in the same location. To rename it, right-click the zip file, click Rename, and then type the new name. Once your file is zipped you can send it to us with our web upload.

Windows 8

1) Navigate to your file using File Explorer. If you are unsure how to do this: open This PC by swiping in from the right edge of the screen, tapping Search (or if you’re using a mouse, pointing to the upper-right corner of the screen, moving the mouse pointer down, and then clicking Search), entering This PC in the search box, and then tapping or clicking This PC.

2) Select the file or folder, tap or click the Share menu (towards the top of the window), and then tap or click Zip.

A new compressed folder gets created in the same location with the same name as the file. You can rename the compressed folder the same way you can rename any other folder. Just select the folder, tap or click Home, and then tap or click Rename.

To add new files or folders to your compressed folder, you can drag them directly onto it. Once your file is zipped you can send it to us with our web upload.

Windows 10

1) Navigate to your file using File Explorer. If you are unsure how to do this: click the start button (bottom left of screen). Then click File Explorer and locate your file.

2) Select the file or folder, then tap or click the Share menu (towards the top of the window), and then tap or click Zip.

Macintosh OS X

1) Right-click on a file, folder, or files you want to zip.

2) Select Compress Items.

3) Find the newly created .zip archive in the same directory.

If a single file is being zipped, the zip archive will maintain the file’s name but append the .zip extension. If more than one file is being zipped, the archive will be named “Archive.zip.” Once your file is zipped you can send it to us with our web upload.
